Depuis la semaine dernière, un sujet chaud a fait remplir les boîtes de courriels des employés de l’équipe de Touché ! PHD. Même un week-end a été insuffisant pour taire ce flot envahissant de message sur la venue de La Presse dans le monde des quotidiens en ligne.
Non, il ne s’agit pas d’une étude sur les émissions de CO2 par habitant ou sur le décrochage scolaire, mais d’un rapport que Comscore vient de publier sur les habitudes « en ligne » des Canadiens (The comScore 2008 Digital Year in Review : A Recap of the Year in Canadian Digital Marketing, March 2009).
On y apprend, entre autre, que le taux d’utilisation d’Internet est nettement plus élevé au Canada que dans les autres pays du G7. Dans certains cas, les internautes canadiens passent même deux fois plus de temps sur la Toile que les utilisateurs d’autres pays industrialisés. Ainsi, en décembre dernier, les internautes canadiens ont navigué pendant près de 45 heures en moyenne, soit 10 heures par semaine. Reporté sur l’ensemble de la population du pays, le temps d’utilisation hebdomadaire moyen d’Internet s’élève à 7 heures et demie. À titre comparatif, la télévision demeure le média le plus consommé avec un temps moyen d’utilisation hebdomadaire de 26 heures (BBM, Canada total, Décembre 2008, Lu-Di, 6h-6h, T15+).
Mardi le 10 février dernier, l’équipe d’Astral Média Affichage nous a dévoilé un tout nouveau réseau numérique d’affichage extérieur 14’ x 48’ qui sera fonctionnel dès ce printemps.
Situés aux entrées et sorties de l’île de Montréal, ces panneaux attireront l’attention grâce à la qualité de l’image, mais surtout grâce au mouvement dû au changement d’annonce aux 10 secondes.
As a big fan of television (yes, yes, I also consume other media than strictly stuff from my laptop!!), I am delighted to hear that Yahoo is going to launch a new platform called ConnectedTV.Yahoo.com to connect television and Internet together. Another person who should be happy is my husband who’s always mumbling that he hates to plug his laptop to the television when we want to watch specific television shows or videos that are online. In the past, there were a couple of attempts by other companies to marry television and web, but I think this one smells good.
Earlier this week, we had an internal discussion on media metrics and on the fundamental question whether the GRP as the central media measurement unit should also be applied to digital media. While there are several tempting reasons to do so (we’ll finally understand each other, clients will find it so much easier to understand the web, imagine how easy we could embed it into our excel charts…) it simply does not make sense in the long run.
Whatever is digital is measurable. Ultimately, everything can be broken down into ones and zeros and allows therefore an unprecedented precision of measurement. While this huge advantage of digital media almost became a disadvantage in the early days of internet advertising (paralyzed by analysis and over promising 24/7 stats…) it is (finally) more and more spilling on traditional media now entering into the brick and mortar environment.
Well, it does seem that everyone is talking about the fall of Facebook these days. Hmm..okay, did you honestly expect Facebook to continue its exponential growth…. forever and ever? OH, P-L-E-A-S-E!! It was inevitable that it would peak at some point in time, I personally believe that … it has simply reached a plateau, that’s it.
So… that being said? What’s the next big thing? Are users going to migrate to another social platform like Google Open Social. Is social media going to die?
